Xiaomi YU7 GT Set for Late-May Debut as Brand Expands Its SUV Lineup
Xiaomi says it will unveil the YU7 GT in late May, adding a performance-focused version to its electric SUV line just weeks after the model surfaced at the Beijing Auto Show. The announcement gives the YU7 a clearer product ladder and extends Xiaomi’s push to turn its EV business into a broader lineup rather than a single high-volume model.
Xiaomi confirms late-May timing for the YU7 GT
The company disclosed the launch window at the Beijing Auto Show on April 24, 2026, saying the YU7 GT will be officially unveiled in late May. The model appears to build on the standard YU7’s shape but adds a more aggressive aero package, new exterior color choices and upgraded performance hardware.
According to the company’s public disclosure, the YU7 GT largely keeps the standard YU7’s design language while introducing a front splitter, a more pronounced rear diffuser and larger brake hardware. The car also appeared in regulatory filings earlier in 2026, suggesting the project is already far enough along for a near-term reveal.
A higher-performance variant for a growing YU7 range
The timing matters because Xiaomi is now shaping the YU7 into a family of derivatives, not just a single SUV. A performance model gives the company a halo product for enthusiasts and a way to stretch the YU7 nameplate upward in price and capability.
That strategy is especially relevant in China’s crowded EV market, where a high-output trim can pull attention to the rest of a lineup and help maintain momentum after a fast launch cycle. Xiaomi has already used its EV business to build scale quickly, and a more aggressive YU7 variant adds another lever for brand visibility.
What the YU7 GT adds on the road
The reported 990-horsepower output and 300 km/h top speed make the YU7 GT a very different proposition from a mainstream family SUV, even if the final production specification is still to be formally confirmed. If Xiaomi follows through on that hardware, the vehicle would sit closer to a performance showcase than a volume model.
For buyers, that means the YU7 line is beginning to split into clearly separate roles: a practical electric SUV at the base and a much more extreme version at the top. For Xiaomi, it also creates more room to compete on image, not just delivery volume, in a market where EV differentiation is narrowing.
The late-May unveiling will show whether Xiaomi is using the YU7 GT as a limited-edition statement car or as the start of a more sustained performance sub-brand within its EV program.
